Emergency Radiation Medicine Course

This course is aimed at all allied health professionals working in the field of Radiation. The course will appeal to members of OH teams working in the UK nuclear industry, health professionals working with ionising radiation or general emergency response teams in the NHS or military. The course will take place in its entirety on-site at the Atomic Weapons Establishment in Berkshire and has been awarded 20 CPD credits by The Faculty of Occupational Medicine.
 
The course content will include the history of the discovery of ionising radiation, radiation physics, radiobiology, dosimetry, biological monitoring, radiation protection, radiation hazards, psychological effects of radiation incidents, and of course the treatment of acute radiation syndrome and radiological contamination. The assessment phase is underpinned by decontamination exercises, tabletop exercises of incidents and a final examination to help underpin the knowledge learned during the course. There will be a diverse faculty, with speakers from departments at AWE, the Defence Nuclear Industry, Public Health England, REAC/TS and TP Health Ltd. The cost is £600 to cover all 4 days with lunch, tea and coffee included in the price.
